Monument Monday for December 14, 2020

New Downloads

  • Extemp Prep for December 14, 2020 – Three headline topics covered in this week’s Extemp Prep download include Facebook, Denmark and The Job Market.
  • Impromptu Prep for December 14, 2020 –  Aesop’s Fables.
  • Lincoln-Douglas (NCFCA) for December 14, 2020 – The purpose of this case is to point out the necessity of knowing who it is we’re voting for. This case focuses specifically on the presidential elections.
  • Lincoln-Douglas (Stoa) for December 14, 2020 – This case is built on the idea that the quality of life of the citizens in a country is heavily dependent upon whether or not they live in a stable economic environment. Growth is important, yes, but make it clear that stability is a necessary prerequisite for growth. Without stability everything falls apart.
  • Parli Prep for December 14, 2020 – Topics in this week’s Parli Prep include: gang violence, terrorism, summer vacation, school choice, The US Patriots Act, ICE, the Supreme Court, Cyber Monday, Black Friday and Christmas trees.
  • Policy (NCFCA) for December 14, 2020 – About half of the EU member states have “start-up visas,” which allow immigrants to enter and settle there if they are building a new business startup. EU would benefit by adopting it, allowing new investors to locate anywhere and move anywhere in the EU with their new business.
  • Policy (Stoa) for December 14, 2020 – The US has direct military involvement in Somalia, trying to reduce the effectiveness of the terrorist group Al-Shabab. But US involvement only fuels the fire. Al-Shabab derives its support by recruiting from people angry about foreign intervention in their country and by the excesses and abuses of the US-backed Somali government that uses harsh measures to crack down. The net result is that our counter-terrorism efforts are only making things worse. Whatever happens after we pull out, it won’t be worse and will likely be better than what we’re supporting now.
    • UPDATE 12/8/20: Last week’s Stoa policy plan on reducing our involvement in Somalia has been passed. The plan went into effect within 24 hours of the set release of our case. It is now the status quo. Since the Stoa resolution is uni-directional, meaning we can only “reduce” as Affirmative, the case cannot be inverted. We will keep this plan published for our Monument Member Archives, but the Somalia plan must be abandoned as affirming the Season 21 Stoa resolution.
